Tranquility Coastal

Tranquility Nursery and Coastal Restoration, LLC is a Louisiana-licensed coastal wetland plant vendor and nursery offering a variety of plants including Vermilon Smooth Cordgrass, Fourchon Germplasm Bitter Panicum, Timablier Germplasm Seacoast Bluestem, Black Mangroves, and more. These grasses and plants, along with many others, are critical components in wetlands restoration, providing shoreline and soil stabilization and erosion control, significant amounts of organic matter, and serve as a renewable restoration resource, increasing species diversity and strengthening the eco-system over time.

Each year, the Louisiana coast loses approximately 25 to 35 square miles of wetlands. By 2050, it is projected that more than 640,000 acres of wetlands will be under water, an area nearly the size of the state of Rhode Island. The wetlands of coastal Louisiana serve as a natural protection system, providing flood control against hurricanes. Every 2.7 miles of wetlands absorb one foot of storm surge; protection that has proven critical in major hurricanes. The wetlands also serve as a breeding ground for local fish and other wildlife, and as a critical migratory pathway for several bird species.

In addition to the wealth of wildlife and natural protection the wetlands provide, Louisiana’s wetlands also represent a significant portion of the state and nation’s economies, supporting critical infrastructure in the region such as highways, ports, pipelines, and navigational waterways. Louisiana’s disappearing wetlands represent a significant threat to the local culture, the national economy, and to the safety and well-being of the entire gulf coast.
